If you’re a beginner in the video editing and color-grading field you probably heard the term LUT, but what is it? In simple words, it is like a filter you apply to your video to enhance colors and make it more professional. Video LUTs are similar to filters you’d put in pictures.
For those videos that were filmed in low exposure, desaturated, or just with a lack of “color pop”, applying video LUT is highly recommended. Every movie, commercial, and professional video you’ve ever seen has some type of LUT applied to it.
They are the go-to tool of many filmmakers who want to easily achieve a certain look without spending hours editing each frame and color.
How To Use Video LUTs
Video LUTs can be used in Abobe Premiere Pro to easily enhance your footage. It is very easy to do and in this part, we’ll tell you how.
First, you need to download your video LUT or your quality video filter. Once you’re done with this, open Premiere Pro and go to your color workspace tab. Select the clip you want to color grade and open the basic correction tab in the Lumetri panel.
You’ll want to locate the basic correction part and select input LUT. This will drop down a menu where you’ll click browse. Go to your LUT download folder and select the one you wish to use.
You can only apply one video LUT, but in upcoming updates of the program, you’ll be able to combine more.
